Tour information

Set off from Perućac and surrender to the Drina: the boat glides through rocky gorges, while the canyon closes around you like a natural amphitheatre. After the cruise, you arrive in Višegrad, where the legendary Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge and the atmosphere of a town shaped by different eras await you. This is a tour where landscapes and stories unfold without pause.

“Across water, forest, and road” is a full-day circular experience: Grizzly 2 takes you by boat to Višegrad, followed by free time for walking, sightseeing, and photos, while the return journey is by bus across Mountain Tara back to Perućac. 129 km, around 10 hours, 140 seats, season: 01/04–31/10.

What does the itinerary look like?

Plan 1

Meeting point at Perućac Lake, travel document check, and boarding the boat.

Perućac is a tourist settlement located 13 km from Bajina Bašta, on the right bank of the Drina River. In its immediate vicinity is the large hydroelectric dam, where the lake begins. Stretching 54 km, the lake forms a magnificent canyon that extends all the way to Višegrad.

Cruise through the Drina River Canyon to Višegrad

During this 52-kilometre cruise, we will enjoy the beauty of nature, the habitats of plant and animal species within Tara National Park, the confluence of the Žepa River and the Drina River, the narrowest section of the canyon, Stari Brod camp, small streams and rivers, and medieval fortifications along the way.

Free time to explore Andrićgrad and the old Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge

The town of Višegrad stretches along the right bank of the Drina River, and partly along the left bank as well, on both sides of the Rzav River, which flows into the Drina here in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina. The town’s greatest landmark is the bridge over the Drina, built in 1571 by Mehmed Paša Sokolović. It was immortalized by Ivo Andrić in his novel The Bridge on the Drina, the work for which he received the Nobel Prize in Literature. Since 2014, visitors have also been able to explore Andrićgrad, a tourist complex conceived by film director Emir Kusturica and inspired by the works and characters of Ivo Andrić. Built entirely of stone, the town is a blend of historical periods and architectural styles that shaped this region over time, including the Byzantine style, the Ottoman period, the Renaissance, and Classicism.

Travel by bus or minibus from Višegrad to Perućac via the Dobrun Monastery, Mokra Gora, and Tara National Park

Following the route of the former Belgrade–Sarajevo railway line, from Višegrad to Mokra Gora, the road passes through the narrow Rzav Canyon, where the picturesque 14th-century Dobrun Monastery is set.

This medieval endowment of Prince Pribil and his family, built within a fortified town, has withstood the passage of time and historical events for centuries.

Important Travel Notes

  • Adult citizens of the Republic of Serbia may travel with a valid ID card or passport. Children must have a passport to cross the border, regardless of whether they are travelling with their parents or not, and if they are not travelling with both parents, they must also have parental consent.
  • Foreign citizens are required to check the entry requirements for Bosnia and Herzegovina on their own.
  • The deadline for submitting personal details is two days before departure, while bookings are accepted in advance for the entire season. The required information includes: full name, date of birth, and the number of a valid ID card or passport.
  • It is not possible to board the boat unless you have reserved your seat and submitted the required information.
  • Transport of pets is not allowed.
  • Due to navigation conditions, the scheduled arrival time may vary by up to 30 minutes.
  • In the event of unfavorable weather conditions or a low lake water level, the boat operator reserves the right to cancel the excursion no later than 2 days before the cruise.
  • In the event of a sudden drop in the lake water level, making navigation to Višegrad unsafe, the alternative would be a 24 km cruise through the canyon to the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina and back, with a total duration of 3 hours and 15 minutes. We would like to emphasize that this almost never happens — it has occurred only twice in the past 8 years — but such situations can arise suddenly and without warning, sometimes leaving no opportunity to inform passengers in advance that the full cruise cannot be carried out.
  • A minimum of 50 paying passengers is required for the tour to take place. In the event of an insufficient number of passengers, the agency reserves the right to cancel the cruise no later than 2 days before the scheduled date.
