Planning a weekend in Western Serbia and want to fit in everything — nature, viewpoints, water, great local food, and a bit of culture? The good news is that everything is close by here, and your days tend to fill up naturally.

Day 1: Mountain Tara + Banjska Stena (the best first impression)

Start early and head to Mountain Tara, with your first stop at the viewpoints. The most famous one is Banjska Stena — overlooking the Drina River Canyon and Perućac Lake. It is the kind of view that makes everyone go quiet for a few seconds. Banjska Stena sits at around 1,065 metres above sea level.

Set aside the afternoon for an easy walk through the forest and a coffee with a view, or lunch in one of the nearby places, depending on your travel style.

Day 2: Perućac + the Drina (water as the main attraction)

Set the second day be all about the water. Spend the morning by the shore, then add a cruise to your itinerary — because a weekend in Western Serbia without a boat trip is a missed opportunity.
If you are travelling with a larger group or want a comfortable covered deck, Grizzly 1 is a great choice for seasonal cruises, usually operating from May 1 to October 15.

If you want tours that continue through the canyon toward Višegrad, Grizzly 2 departs from the beach on Perućac Lake, with both shorter and longer cruise options available.

Day 3 (optional): Višegrad + Andrićgrad (a cultural finish)

If you extend your stay to three days, finish in Višegrad: take a walk, stop for a coffee, and make sure to visit Andrićgrad — a cultural complex located between the Drina and Rzav rivers, near the famous bridge.

It is an ideal contrast to all the nature — a bit of architecture, a museum-and-cinema feel, and a good reason to slow the pace at the end of the day.

Local food and accommodation

For a proper weekend in Western Serbia, count on traditional local food: trout, komplet lepinja, kajmak, pies, and all those dishes that turn “I’ll just try a little” into “bring me one more portion.” Choose your accommodation based on the kind of trip you want: Mountain Tara for peace and forest, or Perućac / the Drina for water and excursions.

A quick seasonal tip: spring and autumn are the most pleasant for an active holiday, while summer is the most reliable season for long days on the water.
